BLOOD OR WHISKEY live and learn [ EP | 2009 | Folk Punk | Ireland | MySpace ]
Live and Learn is the second release by the irish Punk outfit Blood or Whiskey and features three original songs and two remixes of Dirty Aul War. The songs are filled with irish and folk influences as we could expect but everything is very well done. What I most liked was the banjo performance, very very good! The tin whistle also fits very well and the "pub singin" vocals complete the songs in the best way possible. A good release from a band that have been through a lot and still stands up!
FLOGGING MOLLY whiskey on a sunday [ DVD | 2006 | Folk Punk | USA | MySpace ]
Whiskey on a Sunday is probable the best DVD/Documentay about a band that I have ever seen in my life. Ifell in love with Flogging Molly about a year and a half ago and with this DVD I kinda married the band. It's not by the quality of the film or the "awesomeness"of the director, it's simply because of the sincerity of the band in every line they say and I got to know things about each member that made me admire them even more. It's really great and I strongly advise you to see this as soon as you can. The live shots of some shows fit greatly as well, like those momments are there to reafirm what some one said in the minute before. Awesome!
THE RED BARON my first love [ LP | 2009 | Hardcore | USA | MySpace ]
After five years and a lot of touring, The Red Baron releases their first full-lenght! Straight-Edge motivated, this Florida based guys deliver a record full of the energy they have always showed on the live shows, which is a trade mark of the band! Powerful riffs and great vocals are the main ingredient of this record, an in your face Hardcore discharge! Everything is well done is this record, musically very well executed, very good stuff! Recomended!
AMERICAN HARDCORE [ DVD | 2007 | by Paul Rachman/Steven Blush | MySpace ]
American Hardcore is a hymn to the late 70s and the 80s. Paul Rachman take us on a trip to the most underground venues, starting right on the turning point of the Punk era to the begining of Hardcore. This trip goes from Washington to Los Angeles, passingthrough New York, by the hand of Henry Rollins and Ian MacKaye. With participations of Dez Cadena and H.R. (Bad Brains) showing us that the young minds in that time were critic abou what was going on and didn't care only about having fun. The critics to Reagan and his government were a constant in those days and those kids were paying attention to that. The diferent scenes of hardcore are also very well portraied on this documentary. The lifestyle, the passion, the rage, it's all here, on this awesome work! This is something you should not loose this masterpiece!
THE INSURGENCE never surrender [ EP | 2009 | Punk-Hardcore | USA | MySpace ]
The Insurgence are a Punk/Hardcore from Seattle, and just for the record, they have already supported bands like Subhumans, Rancid, Misfits or Dropkick Murphys. This 4 track EP "Never Surrender" is an energy discharge with many influences mixed resulting in a great work and fresh sound! They don't sound like anyone else and that's awesome! The catchy verses are the oposite of the screamed hardcore parts and that balance results very well! The final track "Never Surrender" is my favourite and it's the cherry on the top of the cake! Like Al Barr (Dropkick Murphys) said, "The Insurgence are an important band that you should pay attention to"! Enough said...
PUNK'S NOT DEAD [ DVD | 2007 | by Susan Dynner | MySpace ]
Punk's Not Dead might be the best documentary I have ever seen. It's reparted in three parts, like the beginning, the development during the eighties and the actual situation, focusing in this times' dilemma "It's Punk/It's Not Punk". Susan Dyner give us a through time prespective mainly on the USA and UK scene, ending with a overall sight in some parts of the world, like Spain or Indonesia. One of the conclusions we can take from this is that underground scene is still alive and very good indeed! More than 150 personalities interviewd for this documentary, most of them musiciais, producers and music-critics. A overview of Vans Warped Tour is present too, and on the opposite way a overview about a underground place that works like a venue and a meeting point for punk rocks at the same time. The interviews with the musicians make us think that the Punk is definately not dead and assure us they are here to stay! The Punk Factory highly recomends this work!
STRUNG OUT prototypes & painkillers [ LP | 2009 | Punk/Hardcore | USA | MySpace ]
Strung Out bring us this compilations of rarities, b-sides, compilation tracks and some previously unreleased tracks! it's nothing more than Strung Out, plain and simple, as we're used to get from them. This mix of Punk and Hardocre results perfectly! We have some Punk tracks, with catchy chorus and melodic guitar lines, but in the next song we get a fast discharge with some agressive singing. Very good stuff from this band that has alrady buit a career with nothing but work! This is something the fans shall not miss!
THE LOVED ONES distractions [ EP | 2009 | Punk Rock | USA | MySpace ]
Distractions is the new EP from the Loved Ones and it only shows again the quality of this group! The sound is Punk, Punk Rock played with an incredible love for what they’re doing! Generally, the tracks are fast and very energic, but the melodic, slower parts fit damn well on the song’s structure and all result in a very good composition! The good thing is that this is everything but boring, I’m listening to it almost everyday since I got it for review, and this doesn’t happen with everyone! Once again, I have to say I love the bass playing, damn good!
DEAD TO ME little brother [ EP | 2009 | Punk Rock | USA | MySpace ]
Dead to Me deliver us this five-track piece with an impressive load of energy that make us jump around from the first note! "Little Brother" is a mix of Punk with Rock 'n Roll which the powerfull voice gives more intensity. The Ska/Reggae touch on the tittle track sounds very good together with the other sounds. “Run That Scam” is my favourite and probabli the best song on the record, but then again is harder to choose only one!
As I said, the voice is really good, but all the instruments sound very good as well, but I have to say thet I really liked the drum sound and rythms! Listen to this!
ENEMY ROSE promises we'll never keep [ LP | 2008 | Punk 'n Roll | Belgium | MySpace ]
Coming from a country that is more known by the extreme side of Metal, what I have now in my hands is a bomb waiting to explode! Enemy Rose is a band full of power and energy that will blow your mind! Promises We'll Never Keep is a mix of old school Glam, with Hard Rock and a Punk attitude and results on a in-your face Rock 'n Roll album fulfilled with feelings and emotions, like an emotional explosion where you hear every feeling like a punch! The instruments are very very good, the guitars are the compliment to the voices melody, Tommy X does an awesome job with the vocals, really good, we can actually feel what his singing, and the drums are great, awesome work by Mr Martellotto! Can't wait to get the next Enemy Rose work on my hands!
DAMAGED DOLLS kill me for fun [ Demo | 2007 | Punk 'n Roll | Sweden | MySpace ]
I’ve been receiving some demos during the last times, but this on is for sure my favorite! I always liked Glam Rock, ans listening to this guys I feel like I got transported to the 90’s! But this is not only Glam, it’s a powerful Hard Rock, sleaze-feeling release, which you can easly imagine in a CD from the Crüe, or Skid Row... The vocals are perfect, the bass ans the drums do their job and the guitar is really cool! This 3 song demo makes me anxious to get my hands on a full lenght! Keep an eye on them!! The song "Kill Me For Fun" is my favorite, it’s just great, pure sleaze...
ONE HUNDRED STEPS human clouds [ LP | 2009 | Post-Hardcore | Portugal | MySpace ]
Finally, the debut album from One Hundred Steps is out! A powerful record but emotional at the same time! The band style is the same we're used to, as we listen to the music we can feel that it's OHS! Released through Rastilho Records, "Human Clouds" is the perfect debut for any band, the solid sound of the band is the main point, but the emotional touch given not only by the lyrics but also by the keyboards is fantastic and fits really well! The voice is really good, clean or screamed, as well as the other instruments, great! This is a band, along with some others from here, has great quality and has what it takes to get outisde, let's hope it happens!
DECADES OF DESPAIR throes of the wretched [ EP | 2009 | Deathcore | France | MySpace ]
Decades of Despair hail us from France a delivers this Deathcore EP full of power and energy! In this record you'll find several influences, from Death to Black Metal (mainly on some vocals, damn good), and it makes it's sound very original, not only growls. The instruments are damn good, pretty raw (yet very good produced). The record is also pretty fast and the breakdowns are so well done. It's pretty technic also, so it may please any Death Metal fans. Well I guess this will please any Extreme Metal fan, be that Black, Death or just Deathcore/Metalcore. Gran this one as soon as you can!
PROWL join us [ EP | 2009 | Punk Rock | Portugal | MySpace ]
Join Us is a 5 song EP and it's the debut of portuguese Punk rockers Prowl, which play a sound within Punk Rock and Pop Punk, very well played as a matter of fact! The influences of Californian scene, skate Punk and all this new breed are notorious, but they mixed all of that and turned it into Prowl's sound! The songs are very catchy in a good way (I listed to this like 5 times before I wrote this) and they have a good structure, the intruments are very good, the bass definately plays an important part, reminded my of Rancid or Blink 182, and at last the voice is damn good aswell, not that clean vocal that we hear all the time. Congratulations to Prowl, they deserve it!
SATAN'S REVOLVER the circleville massacre [ EP | 2009 | Southern-Metal | Portugal | MySpace ]
What can we expect when a bunch of bastards join up to kick some ass? That's right, a massacre! Satan's Revolver is formed by some know names of the portuguese underground scene and it's diferent of what we see everyday around here, it's not Black Metal nor Brutal Death x) The Circlecille Massacre is a mix of Metal, Hardcore and Southern Rock, perfect for fans of Everytime I Die for example, and consists in a 5 song EP, all very powerful and contagiant. The production of the band is damn good, both musically and visually, Guilherme's voice fits perfectly on this style and all other members rock hard as well, the drums are simply amazing, the bass/guitars are also damn good! We will definately keep an eye on this fellas!
SATANIC SURFERS taste the poison [ LP | 2005 | Punk-Hardcore | Sweden | MySpace ]
Satanic Surfers are no longer in action, but they left with the feeling of mission accomplished by leaving us this Taste The Poison, a fast and melodic Punk-Hardcore record that leave us the feeling that they could keep going, but sometimes it takes more than that. I really like Satanic Surfers and listening to Taste the Poison was a pleasure, so I must advise you to listen to it and get to know this band, you'll not regret. Musically, they're very good, personal lyrics, they're powerful, guitars and bass are awesome, as well as the drums, and Rodrigo is an hell of a singer!
TWENTYINCHBURIAL radiovenom [ LP | 2006 | Post-Hardcore | Portugal | MySpace ]
Radiovenom was the last release by portuguese metalheads Twentyinchburial and it was produced by Tue Madsen. This album is a mix of Hardcore with Metal, combining clean vocals with screams and fast guitars with slower and melodic rythms. Lirycally, the band express their emotions with such an anger and emotion that make us feel like we're inside the music. To point out the female participation Sofie Cristensen, damn good! One of the best portuguese bands, currently disbanded. Radiovenom is one piece that you can't miss!
FAST MOTION sailing to nowhere [ EP | 2008 | Punk-Hardcore | France | MySpace ]
Usualy, and to be honest, I don't really like french bands, why? Because most of them sound like french guys that don't speak english very well. And my opinion is that you speak well or don't speak, as simply as that, and the first mention to this band goes to that, very good english. Now, talking about the music, fast Punk with Hardcore influences, nothing new until here, but Sailing to Nowhere stands out by the dedication and energy that each member puts on their job inside the band, the instruments are very very well, the production is great and personaly this is a band I'd like to see live, and in my opinion this is one of the biggest compliments a band can get :) "Count to Ten" is probably my favourite track, but I don't know why, they're all fast, agressive, melodic... Great album!
BANKRUPT rocket to city riot [ EP | 2008 | Psychobilly | Hungary | MySpace ]
Rocket to City Riot is the latest EP from Bankrupt, and it consists on a mix of Punk with Psychobilly, very well played and with a good production, just to begin. This five songs are can easily please anyone who likes both Misfits and Koffin Kats, for example. FUll of energy and groove, Bankrupt built a record that can be assumed as the starting line for the band - from here the road is only straight ahead! My favourite track is "Years of Disaster", I think it's the face of the record... Stay tuned to this guys, they'll will be crossing your way soon again for sure!
DEFING CONTROL stories of hope and mayhem [ LP | 2009 | Punk-Hardcore | Portugal | MySpace ]
Stories of Hope and Mayhem is the second album from portuguese punks Defying Control and at a first listen we can find some influences from bands like Rise Against ou Strike Anywhere but also Bad Religion for example! It's a mix of Punk with Hardcore with mainly sentimental/personal lyrics... Only the intro make us wonder about what's coming next, it's really powerful! What follows is a load of powerfull Punk rock, some times faster, other times slower, but always very well produced. Also you'll find some melodic singing, wich fits incredibly great! The voice is very very good, and the instruments are awesome as well, the drums kick ass and the guitar blows! I'm in position to say that this is an hell of an album and I strongly advise you to grab it as soon as you can!
THE ACKEES nice boys no use sex toys [ Demo | 2008 | Punk-Rock | Italy | MySpace ]
The Ackees were born from the ashes of The Cummies and the result is "Nice Boys No Use Sex Toys". The sound is very similar and the quality is the same! Although the recording is not the best, it's only a demo, we can still figure out that this is a band that we shall keep an eye on! From Sex Pistols to newest bands, the influencies are there and they use it the best way, a cool Punk Rock, not to pop, not to heavy, with the perfect dose of both! None of the tracks reach the 2minutes, but I didn't even noticed that, Nice Boys and Magazine Girls are my favourite tracks and will be yours too as soon as you get the demo, which is free downloadable from their MySpace.
VENTAS DE EXTERKO os porcos chegaram pra ficar [ Demo | 2008 | Punk Rock | Portugal | MySpace ]
Ventas De Exterko is a portuguese Punk band and this demo is avaiable for free download on their website, so if you wanna check for yourself what they can do follow the link below. Well, this demo is studio recorded, so the quality is not very good, but we can taste their sound and what I like most is the fact that they sing in portuguese! The sound it's very energic with slower parts, but generally it's pretty fast. The lyrics are very good aswell, mainly containing critics to the society! A band to follow with attention by the Factory, and we advise you to do the same!!
THEYWEREGUNSHOTS i need you to warm me, you need us to burn [ EP | 2008 | Deathcore | Portugal | MySpace ]
Theyweregunshots is a portuguese band that plays a mix of Hardcore with modern Metal, and this EP is an ode to that! Five great songs that make us think why all those american shitty bands are so "big" and bands like Theyweregunshots have to struggle so much for a spot! With six years and lots of played gigs, this release came to confirm the quality of the live acts. Talking about the music itself, it's damn energic and powerful, the voice is great, the instruments will knock you down at the first minute, bu the best way is to think for yourself! Personaly, One Armed Bandits is my favourite track, fucking power! Fans of Converge or As I Lay Dying, you'll love this!
R12 Boletim Agrário [ LP | 2008 | Ska-Punk | Portugal | MySpace ]
Boletim Agrário is the first full lenght for the portuguese Ska-Agro-Punks R12 and I must say that it was a big surprise! It's a records full of quality, both drums and guitar are very cool, very well recorded, as well as the other instruments. The trumpet and the ska touch fits perfectly on R12's musical structure, pretty cool. Also, Miguel Newton's appearence (from legendary punks Mata-Ratos) on the fourth track is very well done and it's another proof that the both record and band have lots of quality. It's nice to know that there are bands like this one around here!
ATLAS LOSING GRIP shut the world out [ LP | 2008 | Punk-Hardcore | Portugal | MySpace ]
Remember that old-school punk bands? Do you miss them? Well, you don't need to suffer no more, 'cause Atlas Losing Grip come to save you! This release is something refreshing on the Punk scene, but that's nothing new because nordic bands always come out with great works! Shut The World Out is an album with political basis, no bullshit! We can found some similarities to bands like Pennywise, Anti-Flag (on the lyrics mainly) and also Bad Religion (mainly on the voice). They play a very powerfull music, but the melody is not forgotten; the drums are smashing, the guitars are very versatile and the bass does it's work the best way possible; the voice is the major force behind this machine, main vocals and choirs take us to the middle of a protest, filled with ange! It's magic...
POWER 90 RECORDS berkeley dream [ Comp | 2008 | Punk Rock | Italy | MySpace ]
This italian compilationby Power 90 Records is a journey through italian punk rockers trying to catch the sunlight, and I'm pretty secure to say that they will, shortly! We'll be able to listen to some Punk Rock, Pop Punk, Punk Hardcore and even some Ska influences, obviously great choices! This are good bands, with the cool punk feeling that we should keep our hears 'n eyes on cause the quality is right there! This is a good bet from Power 90 Records, a nice word for them, it's good to see some people doing the right this for their movements!

MIKE save the day [ LP | 2008 | Punk Rock | Sweden | MySpace ]
Mike is a punk band hailing from Sweden, but they're tunes take us back to the 90's at California's beaches! Bands like Offspring, No Use For A Name or MxPx can be named as some influences to this band. The previous statement may 'cause some disappointment and thoughts like "Ok, another band thying to do the same as the oldies", but no, Save The Day shows us a grown up band who kows what is doing here and where wants to go! Musicaly talking, it's a very well produced album, but we're used to the nordic perfection, greatly recorded instruments and the melodic voice is so cool that we don't tired of listening to it! Get this album as soon as you can, greatly recomended by The Factory!
THE NIGHTSHIFT los muertos [ LP | 2008 | Horror Punk | Sweden | MySpace ]
Horror is a very popular sub-genre in the Punk/Rockabilly scene, but listening to good Horror music is harder everyday, although we have tons of Horror bands. This is one is special, it's not that music that is garbage, I mean, you listen to it once and then you don't get to it anymore. It is so well mixed that we don't ever get tired of it. Songs like "Mosh the Grave", "Brainsicle"or "The End of the World" got stuck on us and they just don't stop playing...We we listen to this, we notice various influences, we have Pop Punk riffs, hardcore vocals à lá Misfits, guitar solos, horror choirs and the typical but well writen horror lyrics. The voice is awesome and the instruments are great, the drums & the bass are really solid, but groovy, and the guitar is just perfect..Seriously, listen to this dudes, you'll not regret!!
X-CONS pride of the free [ LP | 2008 | Punk-Hardcore | Portugal | MySpace ]
X-Cons hail from the North of Portugal and their Punk-Hardcore seems to become one of the best offers of the genre. I dare to say that they might me within the top of the portuguese "scene".Their new album Pride of the Free is one of the most well done work I've listened in the last times. I'm not saying that it's a masterpiece, for me such thing does not exist, but it is awesome!!Talking about the music, what you're going to found is a in-your-face Punk-Hardcore, political-themed, straight critics to the world we live in, like Anti-Flag for example. We can found some similarities to older Punk bands like Pennywise or The Unseen. The riffs are really powerfull and so are the drums, the vocals an the choires make you wanna scream every word they spit out, this is what happens when you mix quality with passion and feeling! Are you gonna miss this?
TRAUMATISME gravest hits [ LP | 2008 | Graveyard Rock | France | MySpace ]
Although the quality of the recording is not that good, knowing that the musician does everything by his own and in his own home studio, we can surely become a fan of Traumatisme, who has recorded many demos/EPs, since 2006 and he has reached some kind of cult status. Talking about this compilation of his hits, we can assure you that he might have a long road to run, but he has run a lot already, we can see his major influences, like Trashlight Vision or Wednesday 13. The instruments, recorded by himself, are very good structured. The guitar is very raw, and the drums are quite simple, which does not mean they're bad. Hits like "I'm a freak" or "I'm a graveyard loser" show us what he feels about himself and life, and the lyrics go around death, dying and the dead. If you have time, check him out and keep an him.
LIVING DEAD LIGHTS living dead lights [ EP | 2008 | Punk 'n Roll | USA | MySpace ]
Ain't no pussy playing this, this is power, this is Rock! Hail to this guys because they are one of the bands that keep Rock 'n Roll alive! A mix of Punk Rock with the sleaze feeling of the most glamourous Rock 'n Roll give this band what thy need to become big, giant! The production of the EP is amazing, you can listen to the songs and you don't get tired of the bad production we see a lot around, this is serious work. The guitar is fantastic, the drums and the bass give a lot of strenght to the songs and the voice is Rock, pure! Advise: Listen to this guys as quick as you can, you can't fail this highway to stardom!
FLIPPIN' BEANS & DECRETO 77 anthems from the cities
[ Split EP | 2006 | Punk Rock | Finland & Portugal | Flippin' Beans MySpace Decreto 77 Myspace ]
This split CD may not be a master piece, but it certainly is a record that every Punk Rocker must have! Hailing from Finland, and curently separated, the Flippin' Beans bring us three new songs with their characteristic attitude. Heavyness and melody get together on this record. Catchy chorus and melodic voices at the the time that the guitar rages on, just great!
By the Portuguese side, Decreto 77 are a well known name on the Punk scene around here, and their work has already given us proofs that they are great musicians and this split only put it out again! The lyrics, focused on the social critic and stuff like that, are greatly writen and the music is just perfect for the voice... Nothing could combine better!
SKARMENTO musica anti-sistema [ LP | 2006 | Punk Rock | Spain | MySpace ]
Skarmento hails from Galicia, Spain and brings to us this Punk Rock with Oi!, and some Ska, influences. Singing in their mother tongue, this guys show us a great capacity to compose awesome tunes, with a very melodic voice; and the instruments are really well recorded (at Garageland Records). The back vocals in some songs, are also really good and give the songs a more catchy feeling. If you do like good Punk, give this guys a listen, you will not regret!! Once again, I love this album!! You can even dance with this guys! ahah
THE CUMMIES lame [ Demo | 2005 | Punk Rock | Italy | MySpace ]
This 6-track Punk Rock demo shows to us what Punk is all about! I wasn't expecting this kind of sound from this guys (because they come from Italy, land of the Goth) and when I first listened to the demo I got stoned! This guys kick ass! Punk Rock à lá Sex Pistols, with personal themed lyrcs and good sound structure! I just can't wait to get this guys live around here!
SAT ON THE CAT murphy [ Demo | 2005 | Punk Rock | Portugal | No Website ]
Sat On The Cat is a Punk Rock band from Portugal and this album let us listen to nothing more than Punk! It's a music that we can listen to over and over again, and it's a sound that we can 'understand' at the first round... Sadly, this band is on a hiatus since 2001, but this demo (3 original songs and 1 cover). This sound is really cool, with some Pop touches (but never too much ;) Let's wait for more Punk tunes! :)
HATE IS JUST A FEELING the road to the kingdom come [ LP | 2007 | Folk Punk | Sweden | MySpace ]
Have you ever heard Punk with a touch of Folk? Well, you're about to hear it again, but with an awesome quality and with a slightly touch of inovation. This is the first full-lenght from this Swedish band and I can already say that I can not wait for the next one! The lirycs are really good, the tecnic is all there, and the genious touches too, like the violin - trust me, it works great! The voice is good aswell and this is another band you can not lose sight! Keep tuned!
